CHRISTCHURCH: When Richard Hadlee claimed his 400th test victim clean bowling Sanjay Manjrekar at his home ground, the brilliant New Zealander achieved a second major milestone in his 18 year international cricket career,
This was his first test since being sidelined for almost a year with an Achilles tendon injury; In November 1988 he set up ‘a world record, 374th wicket when he dismissed another Indian, Arun Lal, in a match in Bangalore.
Hadlee was given a standing ovation on ‘Sunday by the crowd of 8000 watching the match in a colorful gesture, 400 roses were carried onto the ground by two local girls as a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s famous song “I did it my way,” was played over the public address system.
