VANCOUVER: The martyrdom day of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji, the 9th Guru of the Sikhs, was observed with great piety and enthusiasm at Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan Society. Ross st. Vancouver on Sunday December 15,1991 . Throwing light on the martyrdom of guru Teg Bahadur at Delhi in 1675, General Secretary Avtar Singh Sandhu said “the great guru strongly resisted the oppression and tyranny of the then Mughal ruler Aurangzeb who was forcibly converting Hindus to Islam and gave the supreme sacrifice of this life to save the Hindu faith.” Bhai Avtar Singh stressed upon the need to propagate Gurus ideal of love, tolerance, service to mankind and peaceful coexistence. Bhai Kundan Singh Sajjan President, addressing the huge congregation said, “the manyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur infused the spirit of fearlessness in the minds of the people and awakened them to fight against, tyranny, oppression and injustice”. Very severely condemning the deployment of army in Punjabi Bhai Kundan Singh said, “Forgetting the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur and the numerous sacrifices made by the Sikhs for India, the government is systematically suppressing and elimination the Sikhs by bullets in fake encounters in place of listening to their demands.” Kirtani Jatha of Bhai Gurbachan Singh Chahal and Punjabi School Children sang the holy kirtan. Bhai Prem Singh nicely explained the significance of Gurus martyrdom. Principal Gian Singh Koti briefly lectured on various aspects of Gurus martyrdom and recited a meaningful poem on the subject. The concluding prayers was performed by Head priest bhai sahib Giani Ballinder singh ji Guru ka langar free food for the whole day was arranged by bhai mohinder singh jawanda .
