NEW DELHI(PTI): Gold smug sling to India has plummeted by 50% since the introduction of the gold import scheme last year, the Lok Sabha (lower house) was informed May 7.
The minister of state for finance, M_V.Chandrashekara Murthy, said the seizure of smuggled gold came down to 2.23 tons in 1992 93 as compared to 4.6 tons in 199192and 6.20 tons in 198990,
Murthy said that the gold bond scheme introduced on March 15 would have no negative impact on curbing the smuggling of the yellow metal.
