WASHINGTON, D.C::Dr. Ghulam Habi Fai, the Executive Director, the Kashmiri American Council (KAC) expresses its deep sense of indignation over the incident involving the abduction and gang rape of a Canadian environmentalist, Ms, Laura Jane Lambi, by officers of Black Cats ‘the commando units attached to the Indian Occupation Forces in Kashmir on October 1112, 1990.

The KAC has obtained information that contrary to Indian propaganda, Ms. Lambi was not a ‘drug dealer’ but a researcher working on the reforestation of the scenie DAL Lake, The circumstances of Ms. Lambi’s abduction and her gang rape at an Indian Occupation Forces camp in Occupied Kashmir is no different from the fate suffered by hundreds of Kashmiri girls,

Dr. Fai said that the involvement of Indian military officers in the crime also refuted Indian Government’s allegation that the atrocities in Occupied Kashmir were perpetrated by semiliterate soldiers. Dr. Fai said that the atrocities in Kashmir are part of the Indian strategy to browbeat the Kashmiris’ into submission.

Dr. Fai has called upon the Canadian Government to forcefully pursue the case involving Ms. Lambi and also question India on its treatment of the hapless Kashmiris who are being raped, murdered, looted, and tortured and burnt alive. The KAC hopes that the peoples of the world will join Canada in condemning India for its human rights abuses in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

The bloodshed and abuse of fundamental rights in Kashmir can be stopped because an internationally accepted instrument exists on the books of the United Nations. Dr. Fai appeals to’ the world community to support the demand that India should be asked to honor her pledges given to the world community.
