Paris — France has asked India to approve the appointment of the present Franch Ambassador to Canberra, Mr. Jean-Bernard Merimee, as ambassador to New Delhi, an informed source said here.
Mr. Merimee is to replace Mr. Serge Boidevaix, recalled recently to France. ;
Mr. Boidevaix, who had been Ambassador to New Delhi since December, 1982, takes up a new post, assistant secretary-general to the Foreign Ministry, next June.
