I. Five dear ones baptise the guru
First the guru has baptised them there
“All Sikhs should wear five K’s
Pledge of dedication with care”
Five K’s are the gifts from the guru
Tokens of deep love you see
Just because the guru loves them tenderly.
- First gift uncut hair and beard
Devotes Saintliness and divine
Mystic sacred, spiritual crown
Gathers waves of consciousness fine
Continues original worthiness
In obedience to fall on knees
Just because the guru loves them tenderly,
III. The Sword, the Second Sacred gift
Denotes righteousness and holy
To preserve the life, love and faith
Compassionate to the poor it be
The visible sign of sensitive soul
Protector, sustainer of humanity
Just because the guru loves them tenderly,
- The steel bracelet, the third gift of love
Denotes unity of humanity great
Token tossed arm up in the air
It shines high of Lordly, state
Spiritual sign of Guru’s remembrance.
Oneness and giver of life and beauty
Just because the guru loves them tenderly.
- The comb, the fourth gift of love
Denotes cleanliness and restraint
Flame of a night lamp it is
Soundless gratitude of the saint,
It preserves life of spark in soul
Guru’s injunction of love stately
Just because the guru loves them tenderly.
- A short drawers, the fifth gift of love
Denotes grown spirit and chastity
Vision of future and spiritual hope.
Saint soldier’s dignity surely
Ever source of inspiration it is
For the present and future victory
Just because the guru loves them tenderly,
