South all (London): A family is jubilant after the Home Office withdrew its thrall to deport their ill and elderly grandmother to India,
Grummet Kaur, 61, whose husband died in 1982, has been living mostly in South all since 1973 with her eldest son Harpinder Singh Hira, 36, in Florence Road.
In 1979 she returned to South all olive with her son, but since then Home Office has been trying to deport her because she entered the country as a visitor.
In November 8,000 strong petition was sent to the Home Office pleading for Mrs Kaur to be allowed to stay.
Ealing Racial Equality Council, based in Manor House. The Green, South all, has been fighting her case with the Home Office.

He believes she would have been given permission to live in the UK if she had applied while she was in India
Her son Gurmeet Kaur Hira, 24, also living in Florence Road, said: “We are very happy about it and now she can start living her life again it’s a great relief because she has been on medication and it has been a great strain for her and. all the family.
We have had two or three appeals in five years. It was a real worry because if she was deported there as no-one there to look after her.
Just over 8,000 people signed the Petition and I would like to thank everyone who has helped us. We have been through a lot and at last are over.”
A spokesman for the Home Office confirmed the deportation order was not going ahead since new evidence was presented.
