NEW DELHI, March 20, (Reuter): Eight people were killed in clashes between police and thousands of farmers protesting against rising production costs outside the Gujarat State. Assembly, Chief Minister Amar singh Chaudhary said today.

Chaudhary told the State Assembly that police opened fire at seven places to disperse the farmers, who tried to gather at the Assembly building yesterday in Gandhinagar, Indian State’s capital.

The opposition walked out of the Assembly after Chaudhary announcement, protesting against police handling of the incident, Press Trust of India news agency said.

It said yesterday that four farmers and a police constable were killed and over 100 wounded during protests by about 10,000 farmers.
