The World Sikh News was founded in December 1984 in the wake of an outright aggression on the Sikh nation by the Indian government; the community had no worthwhile media to project its aspirations. This gap is sought to be filled by the W.S.N. that the WSN has been coming ‘out without break for the past 10 years is in itself an achievement, It is a tribute to the tenacity of the promoters who, in the face of heavy financial odds, have been running the newspaper, without compromising on the basic principles. The newspaper’s reporting and comments are free, nonpartisan and impartial, that is why the paper has won the esteem of all sections. The WSN made it a point all these years to report on the human rights violations in India. This coverage contributed a great deal in enlightening leaders of public opinion in the USA and other western countries about the real face of the Indian democracy. The paper also projected the concept of freedom and democracy which are the cornerstone of Sikhism and the Sikh movement. Leaders of public opinion in the West today have much better appreciation of the Sikhs stand and goal. The WSN is perhaps one of the few bilingual newspapers. It has tried to propagate the basic concepts of Sikhism, Sikh culture and history. The paper has tried to remove the alienation of the new generation from Sikh religion, Sikh culture and the Punjabi language.

The management of the WSN is confident that the Sikhs in the west will continue to patronize the WSN in the various ways as before.
