The Afghan nation is on the verge of a memorable triumph. On the political agenda is the installation of a coalition government of prominent militant groups. These groups led the Afghan ration for more than 13 long years in a gruesome struggle against the occupation of that country by Moscow. It was a veritable war for freedom in which the Afghans lost heavily in terms of men and materials. Few nations may have paid a heavier price for freedom than the Afghans. Semi-tribal and nomadic people graduated over the years into a modern-day nation, They used modern weapons to give a crushing defeat to the enemy and his local surrogates. The Soviet Union was not only forced to pull out of Afghanistan four years ago but received such a big drubbing at the hands of the brave Afghans that the so-called super power crumbled soon after. The world public opinion rightly felt appalled at Moscow’s imperialist aggression. The neighboring countries such as Pakistan and Iran gave shelter to lakhs of hapless Afghans in their hour of distress and thus earned the gratitude of the Afghan nation. But certain other countries such as India, on the other hand, stabbed the Afghans in the back, became a world spokesman Of the aggressors and extended even material support to the local puppet regimes. So much so that Delhi is even today willing to help the tottering Kabul regime. The U.S.A. played a significant role in opposing the Soviet plans in the region and lent well deserved support to Afghan guerillas with money and weapons. The Afghan leadership has tremendous responsibility on its, shoulder store establish its authority, to bring about revolutionary changes in the politics and economics of the war-ravaged country and to seek world support to punish the war criminals who were responsible for selling off the interests of the country and inflicting untold injury on its people. The new government to be formed must, however, be careful about harming the innocent opponents of the guerilla groups although no criminal should go unpunished. The Sikh nation congratulates the people of Afghanistan on their historic triumph. The Sikhs have much in common with the struggling people of Afghanistan, Both have been the victims of the neo-imperialist forces represented by Moscow Delhi axis, The two nations have great cultural and linguistic affinity Its also well known that the Sikh and Afghan militants have been cooperating with each other in several ways for the past five years. The Sikhs are interested in cementing these countries further. An independent, prosperous Afghanistan will be a matter of pride for the people of Khalistan who are still struggling to reach their goal. Nevertheless, the two nations through their representatives overseas could fruitfully cooperate with each other now that an independent, Islamic, revolutionary Afghanistan is fast on way to becoming a reality.
