Dr. Kirpal S. Sidhu, toxicologist and risk assessment expert with the Michigan Department of Public Health, was one of the 20 members of the United States official delegation to the recent U.S. India Workshop on Environmental Risk Analysis in New Delhi, India. Sidhu was the recipient of the National Science Foundation travel grant.
The delegation included toxicologists, engineers, environmental health scientists and risk assessment experts. The workshop was supported by NSF and U.S. EPA. Sidhu presented a paper on the importance of electronic database network in handling chemical accidents. India had a major chemical disaster in Bhopal five years ago in which 3,499 people died and hundreds were hurt.
Sidhu also participated in the international conference on Environmental Pollution at Jaipur India. He presented seminars on public health risks to environmental contaminants at the Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, India. He was interviewed by the Jullundur Television Station for an environmental program called Chaugirdah.
Sidhu, who is the United States Soccer Federation Official Soccer Referee, also participated in the Sahibzada Zorawar
Singh Soccer Tournament for Peace in Punjab. He was privileged to referee the final soccer match of the tournament between JCT Phagwara and Border Security Force.
Sidhu serves as the secretary of the Sikh Gurdwara of Michigan Lansing.
