AMRITSAR: Akali Dal (Mann) in a telegram to Romanian counselor in Delhi requested him to arrange for the transfer of the bodies of Sikhs killed in Romania while allegedly attacking former Punjab police chief J.F.Ribeire. The body, the Mann group added, would be cremated according to Sikh rites.
Akali Dal leader Simranjit Singh Mann who heads the party in the telegram added that his party would be willing to pay the cost of transporting the body as well as of defending the two Sikhs arrested by the Romanian authorities in connection with the attack.
The party also said that the Indian government had been exposed when it first supported the coup against President Garbachev and later opposed it. Whether it was Kuwait or Rushia, Bhai Ram Singh of Mann Dal said, his party was in favor of democracy. He asked C.P.(M) leadership as to how they would face President Gorbachev now. Bhai Ram Singh asked the U.S. and other democratic countries to put pressure on India to give freedom to Sikhs, He also asked international financial institutions to apply sanctions against India.
