JALANDHAR: The Jalandhar police refused to record a complaint sought to be presented by trade unionists of the workers of Punjab Roadways against Central Reserve Police Forces men for beating a conductor of the No 2 depot of Punjab Roadways, Amritsar, The C.R.P.F. broke an arm of the conductor, Mr Punjab Singh, dragged him from his bus which was on way to Amritsar from Paonta Saheb. The workers of Punjab Roadways started an instant strike and closed the bus stand to protest against the police inaction against the C.R.P.F. It may be recalled that the Punjab police does not normally record any complaints against the central govt’s force irrespective of the severity of the crime it may have committed.
Similar incidents occurred in scores in the past few years. Workers of Punjab Roadways and those of the Popsu Road Transport Corporation resort to token strikes and stop it there. Invariably the trade unions belonging to the C.P.I. or the C.P,(M) pocket the insults and strike deals with the security forces “so that the fight against terrorism is not weakened” in the process,
