NEW DELHI: Under no circumstances should the current elections except in Punjab be postponed or emergency imposed Mr Pranab Mukherjee Congress spokesman said here June 9. Nobody in the country is competent to prejudge the poll outcome. Let the people exercise their right to vote Let us not go a guessing on whether there will be a hung Parliament or one party will get a clear verdict Mr Mukherjee said while replying to questions on the President’s telecast to the nation Saturday and its analysis in some publications The spokesman said that when a delegation of the AICC general secretaries the AICC treasurer and he himself called on the President Mr R. Venkataraman recently they made it clear to him not to go in for imposition of emergency. There has been some deterioration of Jaw and order. But this should not be used as a plea to postpone the elections It is the duty of the government to restore peace and normalcy he said. Mr Mukherjee said that if a person had a headache then the prescription could not be cutting off the head. We cannot agree to any such prescription he said while talking about the possibility of imposition of emergency.
