UNION CITY, CA: Balbir Singh Ragi was appointed to the Union City Planning Commission by the Mayor of Union City, Mark Green and was unanimously approved by the council present at the meeting held in July 26, 1994. This makes Ragi the first Sikh in the City’s history to be appointed to such a commission and possibly the first in state.

 Ragi, a longtime resident at Union City and the founding member and former president of Gurdwara Sahib Fremont, has not only been an outspoken community leader on the Sikh issues, but has worked as an active member of Punjab Cultural Society in promoting the Punjabi Culture.

  Ragi says that he wishes to serve When city that he calls home to as- sure that the City’s planning is carried out in a way that makes Wnion City a desirable place to live and raise children and also’ where business would want to set up shop, “The City can be proud of its planning record thus far and I hope I will be able to bring some- thing to the party to maintain that record. I also would in a small way ‘Would like to serve as an example to our people to get involved in the Mainstream in order to make a difference” states Ragi.

Born in Punjab and educated in England, Ragi has lived in U.S.A. Since 1972 and is a senior Director with a Silicon Valley firm.
