CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Sikh Lawyers Association volunteered to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee that it would contest the case of Simranjit Singh Mann and Atinderpal Singh without any remuneration.
It elected Tarlok Singh as its President. He has been ‘authorized) to nominate other officer bearers and members of the executive committee of the Association.
It however floyed the SGPC for including the names of certain lawyers in its panel who were opposed to Simranjit Singh Mann during the Barnala government in Punjab.
The SGPC, it may be recalled, has appointed Ajit Singh Sarhadi as chairman of a panel of Lawyers to conduct the case against Mann and Atinderpal Singh. Sarhadi was associated with Barnala government and was an aspirant of for the post of advocate general.
Barnala and Rajiv had openly ‘opposed Mann’s bid to get elected to the Rajya Sabha and had assured his defeat by supporting Gen. J.S. Arora.
Meanwhile Punjab Sikh Lawyers Council G. Secretary D.S. Gill has condemned the S.GP.C. for the formation of the committee. The committee, he said, comprise anti Mann elements and could not lead the case to success.
