CHANDIGARH: A teacher’s bid to regulate entry of students into the Tagure Theater during a school function last week made him the target of an alleged assault by a cabinet minister of Punjab Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal
The cause of provocation for the alleged assault on the teacher was that he had stopped the daughter of the minister from entering the hall time and again The annual function of the Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 16 was in-progress inside the theater when the incident occurred Eyewitnesses alleged that the minister a at the scene when her daughter rang her up. The daughter had been stopped by the teacher who was manning the gate from moving in and out of the hall. It is learned that the VIP tied to justify that she had been placed on a duty where she was supposed to come in and out. However she was told to remain inside the hall. AL this she called her minister mother who eyewitnesses said descended on the scene with a posse of armed gunmen. Enquiries reveal that Mrs Bhattal ‘was hurling abuses and using indecent language and crying for the teacher’s blood. After she insisted that the teacher be brought out to apologize and even allegedly threatened to get him picked up if this was not done the other teachers and school authorities brought the concemed teacher it was here that Bhattal is believed to have slapped the teacher in public. She however has denied the slapping charge saying that she can do this to any teacher who misbehaves with her daughter
The teacher was then literally made to apologize to the 12thclass girl student of his school as more gunmen of the minister came around: Efforts by other senior teachers and the school principal Mrs. Rajesh Chaudhary to pacify the minister failed. They also objected to the forcible apology which the concemed teacher was asked to make.
