NEW DELHI: Indian government is likely to present the union budget for 1990-91 in the third week of March, reversing its earlier decision to present it in May.
There has been some rethinking in the finance ministry in the past few weeks on the merits of the decision to postpone the budget to sometime in April or May.
Federal finance minister Madhu Dandavate had stated at a press conference that the new coalition government would seek a vote on account in February and present the budget later on.
One of the reasons for reviewing the decision taken in December was that in the event of a late budget in April or May, the proposals will have only less than a year and may not provide enough time to bear full results.
