BATHINDA: Dissident Congress Member Parliament Jagmeet Singh Brar will shortly nominate district and block level conveners. Of the Lok Yudh Morcha, which may be given the shape of a regional political party?
Mr. Brar confirmed that if his nine point program was not accepted by the Center and he was expelled from the primary membership of Congress party by the high command, the morcha would be converted into a party which would seek the peoples’ mandate in the next elections. He further said that he was trying to establish contacts with the Bahujan Samaj Party supremo, Kanshi Ram. “As the BSP was our natural ally, the morcha had already maintained constant links with the state leadership of the party,” he said. To make it a real movement of the Punjabis, cutting across the party lines, Mr, Brar said he had a plan to meet the leadership of the CPM, CP and other likeminded parties. “The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal had already given us full support at the Lok Yudh Morcha was aimed at the up lift ment of the farmers and common Punjabis. In the past too, had courted arrest during the agitation Staunched by the BKU. At a number of times, we shared a common platform to highlight the grievances of the farmers,” Mr, Brar said.
Brar criticized Beant Singh for threatening to take strict action against the launching of the morcha ‘as he was apprehensive of taking Punjab into the dark old days of Punjab. He said he had never thought of intermingling politics with religion. “That was the reason I did not brief the press when I was arrested in the Golden Temple. Neither I addressed the ‘sangat’ from there,” he said. Brar announced that the Lok Yudh Morcha was a continuous struggle and that the next action program would be announced on December 18 after a public rally at Mudki (Ferozepore) to commemorate the martyrdom of those killed in the Anglo Indian war in 1845, another conference would be held at Sabhraon, he said.
