SRINAGAR, OCT. 10 (PTI) — An attempt was made on the life of Mr. Sheikh Rashid, the first cousin of the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, when subversives hurled a powerful bomb at his residence at Soura on the outskirts of the city.
The blast damaged a van parked in the compound and the building partially.
Sheikh Rashid said that he was sleeping when the explosion, which created a crator in the compound, took place.
He said a militant outfit styling itself as “Alah Tigers” had sent him a letter sometime back asking him to sever links with politics or face the consequences.”
“I had handed over the letter to the police,” he said adding the police had provided him with three armed guards since then.
Mr. Rashid is a National Conference party leader and former member of the State Assembly.
In another explosion at the city bus stand at Lal Chowk, a girl suffered minor injuries.
