AMRITSAR: The Majitha police have arrested Bhai Mohkam Singh, chief spokesman for the Damdam Taksal under TADA and the Explosives Act for his alleged links with militants.
The SSP of the Majitha police district, Paramjit Singh Gill, told newsmen that the arrest of Bhai Mohkam Singh, who recently visited Bombay for about 10days, was made on the basis of “secret” information received about his maintaining close links with militants in Punjab and Bombay.
Bhai Mohkam Singh, who was arrested was produced in a court and was remanded in police custody till May 15.
Bhai Mohkam Singh has been maintaining links with the Khalistan Liberation Force and militants Shamter Singh alias Shera, and Shima Baltwali and Dezowal. He has been keeping weapons and money for them; all these militants have one to other states in view of the mounting pressure of the security forces. Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, Simranjit Singh Mann, president of the Akali Dal (Mann), on May Zalleged that Bhai Mohkam Singh had been picked up near Chowk Mchia a few days before and had been lodged at an interrogation center at Malmandi, Amritsar.
The Akali leader said on telephone that Bhai Mohkam Singh was tortured and that he had been denied food.
Mann appealed to Amnesty International and other human rights Organizations to intervene. He had also sent telegrams to the Chief Election Commissioner because Bhai Mohkam Singh was the supporter of Ajit Singh Bains, candidate of the Akali Dal (Mann)
For the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. Mann said that the house of Sucha Singh Chhotepur, a former minister and in charge of the election campaign of the Akali Dal (Mann) at Chhotepur village in Gurdaspur district had been raided by the police twice. He feared that Chhotepur would also be picked up by the police.
