WIMBLEDON, ENGLAND: West Germany became the world’s tennis capital Sunday as Boris Becker and Steffi Graf gave their homeland its first sweep of the singles title at Wimbledon.
Becker said it was a fairytale ending to an across the net friendship that bean more than a decade ago.
Becker defeated defending men’s champion Stefan Edberg 60 76 64 to complete the center court double after Graf had retained her women’s crown with a victory over Martina Navratilova.
The two champions grew up about six miles apart and Becker said they played tennis together four years in the junior.
