CHANDIGARH, India: The ruling Akali Dal has finally decided not to hold the conference on Holla Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib. The decision which was more or less in the offing was taken at a meeting of Sikh Jathedars of the party which was chaired by Surjit Singh Barnala.

The unanimous view at the meeting was that the Unified Akali Dal which was guided by the Sikh High Priests would create hurdles in its way. To avoid confrontation which could lead to bloodshed they decided to call off.

This is for the first time Akali Dal which is considered the Principal faction by virtue of its being ruling party isn’t holding the conference at Holla Mohalla, biggest festival of the Sikhs.

The Chief Minister has apprised the Jathedar of the situation prevailing at Anandpur Sahib and advised him to stay away from the festival. The Jathedar, however, does not agree with the assessment of Surjit Singh Barnala and will attend the Holla Mohalla function.
