DHAKA, BANGLADESH: Former President Khandekar Mushtaque Ahmed, who was installed by the leaders of the first military coup in 1975, diced Tuesday, March 5th, his family said, He was 76.
Ahmed, who retired from active politics nearly two years ago, died of a brain hemorrhage at a hospital in Dhaka.
He was best known for his role in the 1975 coup, during which the nation’s founder, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was assassinated Bangladesh won independence from Pakistan in 1971.
Ahmed had been a close aide of Rahman and served as irrigation minister.
Ahmed was made president on Aug. 15, 1975, but less than three months later he was ousted in another military coup.
