Chandigarh: The Punjab Finance Minister S. Balwant Singh today attacked the SGPC and said that it should not act as a helpless organization. He also said that it had failed in maintaining Law and order in the Golden Temple Complex. Addressing a press conference in Amritsar in the Hospital where Giani Sahib Singh is being treated Mr. Balwant Singh said it was the duty of SGPC to see that nothing done was in the temple complex which may provoke police entry. The SGPC, he maintained, was an elected organization of the Sikhs. It should discharge its duty with authority.
He quoted the Chief Minister for saying that there was only one Akali Dal and the United Akali Dal was not a political party. Mr. Balwant Singh said that all help would be given to the widows and children of those who were killed.
