NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar Monday exhorted people to emulate sportspersons in all walks of life.
Giving away the Hinduja Foundation Sportsmen Awards to Beijing Asian games medal winners and promising athletes adopted by the foundation he said: “sportsmen fight bitterly on the field but they forget all bitterness once off it.”
Former Asian sprint queen Usha Srinivasan (Nee P.T.) who was coming to the capital for the first time after her marriage on April 25 was presented a wedding gift and a special memento for performances in Beijing and Seoul Asian games.
Others who received the awards included the bare-footer steeple chaser Dina Ram wrestler Ombir Singh weight-lifters Bharti Singh and Jyotsna Dutta (all silver) Rosa Kury (middle-distance)S.D.Eshan (shot putter) Gopal Dewang (boxing) N. Kunju Rani Chaya Adak Subhas Verma (wrestling) Dalbir Singh (rowing all bronze medal winners).
Shooter Soma Dutta who had won spite his busy schedule also presented prizes to promising athletes adopted by the foundation.
