GUWAHATI: C.M Threatened Negotiators the period of suspension of army and police operations against the secessionist united liberation front of Assam (ULFA) in Indias Northeastern State of has been extended till April one an Official spokesman said Thursday.
“This is for the third dime the period of suspension has been ex tended.
The suspension was extended following are quest from the ULFA. To New Delhi to enable it to hold another meeting of its general council, the spokesman said.
The extension was also to help implement the assurances given by the ULFA to Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, on January 12toabide by the constitution and abjure violence. the spokesman said.
The government had announced the suspension of operation first font January 14 and again on January 31 to facilitate the ULFA for holding its general council meet NG.
Five ULFA leaders held talks with central government authorities on Wednesday, but no details
prepare the groundwork for formal talks, had requested for extension of suspension of operation against them up to April one, 1992.
The ULFA general council had it meeting somewhere in Subsagar district in upper Assam in the last week of February and according to reports some hard-liners of the banned outfit were not 100 happy with the under taking given by their top leaders to the center.
Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia Friday warned that anyone lying to all negotiations with the united liberation front of Assam (ULFA) restore peace in state would not be spared,
Speaking at a press conference here, Saikia said that law would take its own course against such forces irrespective of their political affiliation or stature,”
Replying to a query as to whether any of his party members were opposing the peace talks to resolve the ULFA imbroglio, he said there might be some party colleagues resisting peace talks. But whoever it is, if the situation demands they would be zaker in to custody for the sake of the nation, he said.
