NEW DELHI: There is no question of abrogation of article 370 of the constitution in respect of Kashmir and government’s policy is very clear on this, home minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed assured the Rajya Sabha.

“It is a historical necessity,” he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has been demanding abrogation of Article 370 which confers special status on J and K.

The minister said there was no question of discussing Article 370 in the advisory council meetings on Kashmir.

He said there is no confusion. The resolve of the government to stand by its commitment to Article 370 has been made clear by prime minister on the floor of the house.

Under the article awarded to Jammu and Kashmir after its accession to India, in 1947 no non-Kashmiri can buy property in the state and resolutions passed by parliament are invalid until state legislature ratifies them.
