Sir,

Sat Siri Akal. Does your son/daughter go to college? Do you go to college? If the answer to either one of these questions is yes then please read on. Jam a second year student at the University of California at Davis (UC Davis) and for the past year. I have held a keen interest in the involvement of Sikh students on college campuses. I have found out that the vast majority of college campuses in the United States (and especially Northern California) have some sort of club for Sikhs or Punjabis and although most of these clubs have a strong core of members and are active in their respective campus communities the majority of Sikh students on these campuses are not members and have decided not to get involved for various reasons some good some bad.

In light of this fact this letter is an appeal to all college students (and especially their parents) to get involved in the community. Often times the opportunity is there but students are either misinformed or unaware of these clubs so this letter is to urge all Sikh students to get involved with their clubs and this letter is also to urge their parents to urge their kids to get involved as well.

If your child is a UD Day student please urge them to get involved. Myself and several other of my Sikh brothers and sisters recently formed Sikh for an Independent Khalistani Homeland (S.LK.H.) a club stressing the importance of the education of people about the Sikhs and their religion culture tradition history and prospective independent home land. If you need any information please call Payinderjit (Pavan) at 408-226-0720 (during the summer) or 916-757-7388 ) starting mid-September 1992

These critically important college years are often the most fruitful of our lives so let’s not let them pass us by without sharing our years with our fellow Sikh brothers and sisters Thank you very much for your time.
