CHANDIGARH: Amarinder Singh who went in to hibernation after the defeat in the February elections of the Akali Dal (Kabul) Party at that time plans to re-enter active politics either by reviving his own Panthic faction or joining one of the existing ones He has reportedly established contacts with the Akali Dal (Badal).
In a sudden move on the eve of the elections Amarinder Singh then heading the Akali Dal (Panthic) had worked out a merger of his party and the Akali Dal (Longowal) led by Kabul Singh. The party suffered a rout in the elections and could send only three members to the Vidhan Sabha including him. After becoming leader of his small group in the Vidhan Sabha he withdrew himself to Chail seemingly out of embarrassment and also to solve off the controversy about his alleged relations with a plot girl since denied by both of them.
In a statement released here of Oct.20 he condemned the hanging of Jinda and Sukha and the governments as on their bhog at the Akal Takht. He said this action of the government would further alienate the Punjabis particularly the Sikhs. At the same time he asked the Akalis to stop shedding crocodile tears on their death. If the Akalis were really concerned about Sukha and Jinda they should have taken up their defence from the day they were first sentenced to death by a designated court in Maharashtra. Amarinder Singh said the Akalis should also stop giving wrong signals to youths to avoid their repression and killing in fake encounters Let hard-liners have their own planning and thinking to achieve their goal but the Akalis should give a democratic program to the people for bringing peace to Punjab he said.
