Chandigarh: Former Punjab Governor, Mr. Arjan Singh, who was later appointed Central Commerce Minister, is seeking election from Delhi south constituency. He is being opposed by a Bhartiya Janata Party Candidate.

It has been learnt that Akalis are supporting Mr. Arjan Singh as Barnala and Balwant Singh feel indebted to him for bringing them closer to the Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. In this constituency there are over 80,000 Sikhs. To woo them Balwant Singh is camping in the Punjab Bhawan at Delhi. He is meeting hundreds of Delhi Sikhs to mobilise support for Mr. Arjan Singh. He has also collected a sizeable amount from Sikh industrialists for Arjan Singh’s election fund. Some Akali M.P.S. and M.LA.S have also been deputed to campaign for Arjan Singh but Akali Dal has not officially made announcement in this regard.
