CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has banned the proposed march by Akalisto Delhion Nov, 1. Chief Minister Beant Singh stated catatonically here on Oct.21 that the state govt. would not allow the march.
The Akalis propose to stage the march to protest against the sacrilege of Gurdwara Gurusar at Gujjarwal village in Ludhiana district and also to press Beant Singh 10 tender a public apology for this incident.
Beant Singh told newsmen he had already transferred the guilty deputy superintendent of police and the station house officer, Referring to the demand for apology he said,” I can seek forgiveness time and again from Guna Granth Sahib, | bow my head in front of the holy scriptures.” However, he said this incident should not be exploited for political purposes.
Commenting upon the arrest of Akali leaders, he said they proposed to observe the death anniversary of Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, the assassins of Indira Gandhi, at Akal Takht,
The chief minister said he had the highest regard for Akal Takht but the authority of this institution had been eroded over the years by the leaders like Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Gurcharan Singh Tohra. He alleged even a killer was appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht. The Chief Minister said Tohra and those managing Akal Takht were irreligious.
