AMRITSAR — At a special meeting held in the Golden Temple here, the Akali Dal condemned the attacked on the Akal Takht Chief, Gyani Kirpal Singh. The attack was described as a mischievous conspiracy to keep Punjab under army control. Through a resolution the party blamed the government for again adopting delaying tactics in resolving the problem, and called upon the government to immediately release. all the leaders, withdraw all cases, end army occupation, lift the ban on all India Sikh Students Federation and restore Civil liberties. Through another resolution, the party demanded that the Party President, Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, should be released forthwith as only he had the authority to decide whether or not to resume negotiations. The party also demanded severe punishment to all those who had overtly or covertly participated in the Holocaust against the Sikhs after Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s assassination.
