PATIALA: The Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) has formed a new political party called the Lok Hit Party.

The party, which received the Election Commission’s letter according to its recognition, last week, has decided to field candidates in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh for the coming general elections. Mr, Sainam Singh Behru, disclosed that the party headquarters will be set up at Basti Abdulapur, Ludhiana, which also houses the head office of BRU (Lakhowal). Earlier, the Election Commission had invited the BKU President, Mr. Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, the party General Secretary, Mr. Manjit Singh Qadian and Mr. Behru for a hearing at Delhi, on January 4. Though the party has not been allotted any election symbol, it has already submitted three symbols for approval, They are A farmer on a tractor, a farmer ploughing land and a farmer irrigating a farm.

 

Mr. Behru further disclosed that Mr, Lakhowal will be the party president while BKU’s state executive committee and its office bearers will be the party office bearers. The BKU district executive committees and that office bearers will comprise the party’s district units. . Mr. Belira said that the Lok Hil Party will try to strike poll alliances with other pro-people political parties in order to defeat the anti-people politics of the Congress, headed by the Prime Minister, Mr, Narasimha Rao and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BSP). The party, he said would not mind joining any joint front against these two parties in the coming general elections, However, if it failed to forge any alliance, the party would go it alone in the elections and would put up its candidates in all the 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab, Mr. Behru added. “The candidates likely to be fielded and the elections include Mr. Lakhowal, Mr. Behru, Mr. Qadian and Mf. Narang Singh Guwara. The party will hold it’s first publically, at the Parade Ground, Chandigarh, on February 13, to announce its aims, political Objectives and demands related to Punjab.
