SANJOSE: San Jose Attorney Mohinder S. Mann is searching for an Indian who would be interested in serving on Santa Clara County Grand Jury. The Superior Court Judge has indicated interest in nominating a qualified Indian to the County Grand Jury.
A Grand Jury’s primary role is to investigate Governmental agencies in making sure that laws are not being violated. A Grand Jury also issues indictments in high profile criminal cases where the District Attorney feels arrest and search warrants are necessary. Additionally the Jury submits an annual report on the status of Governmental services and the needs for improvements.
Mann said A Grand Jury provides an essential law enforcement and judicial function and I would like to see our community members participate in this very important function 19 individual jurors serve on three different committees consisting of Law and Justice; County Administration; Communication and Operation. The law and justice committee reviews the procedures and operations at the County Jail Hospitals Juvenile Hall and Children Shelter the County Administration reviews County audits and investigates complaints against County agencies regarding their services. The Grand Jury works in conjunction with the District Attorney County Counsel and the presiding Superior Court Judge. Appointments are for one year. Jurors have a commitment of at least eight hours a week. Interested individuals should be proficient in English Generally individuals who have flexible working hours or are retired are best suited.
