KARNAL: The Haryana Armed Police headquarters at Madhuban near here is tense in the wake of rumors that the militants succumbed to injuries.
The rumors followed a heavy dose of corporal punishment to the recruits for allegedly passing some comments on the wives of certain senior police officials while the latter were having their routine evening walk on May 11.
According to official sources the ladies complained about the incident to Suman Manjari Deputy Superintendent of Police who was following the recruits to the campus cinema hall where they were all to watch a movie.
The recruits whom ENS spoke to agreed that there was a case of eye-balling. But they said none of them passed any comments on the campus ladies and it was outsiders who made passes at the ladies. They allege that the lady officer did not listen to their version and made them roll and crawl on the road through a of slush and later through a dusty length of about 50 meters.
The recruits said that since they had their dinner an hour earlier about25 of them fainted and had to be hospitalized in an unconscious state. As a recruit tried to stretch himself or shake off his discomfort or exhibited any signs of tiredness the “ustadji” (referces) would mercilessly beat him with a stick the recruits allege.
The recruits insist that the officials did not care to have the culprits identified and the punishing exercise was only aimed at satisfying their spouses.
Asked why no identification parade was conducted the Inspector General of the Haryana Armed Police S.H. Mohan said that the police training institutions cared to foster a Sense solidarity among the recruits and that such solidarity helped bring about cohesiveness and instill the spirit of team work among the recruits.
