HOUSTON: First week of June marks a very important period in the Sikh calendar when our fifth Guru Arjan Dev embraced martyrdom in 1606. We celebrated this day in 1984 and every year.

Thousands of Sikh pilgrim’s men women and children congregate in Gurdwara (Sikh shrines) in Punjab (the Sikh homeland) and all over the world It was then the Indian army attacked the holies of the holy Golden Temple Amritsar and 44 other major shrines in the Sikh homeland. The Indian army killed thousands and arrested other innocent pilgrims without any charge.

In memory of those and thousands of others around the world who laid down their life to preserve freedom and human rights Sikhs of Houston have organized a blood drive for peace and human dignity.

This year’s blood drive will be held on May 311992 (Sunday) from 11 am to 3 pm at the Sikh Center 8819 Prairie Dr. Houston TX. As usual there will be langar (free kitchen) for everyone after the prayer meeting.
