LONDON; News has just reached: us from India that Dalbara Singh Gill and Mohinder Singh Grewal, the chairman of the General Secretary respectively of the Punjab Human Rights Organization (P.H.R.O.), recently visited Kashmir in connection with yet ‘more atrocities committed by the Indian army and paramilitary forces against ci Biharamulo District of Kashmir.
The P.H.R.O.’s visit lasted from Sept 18-22. In company with the retired Chief justice of the Jammu ‘and Kashmir High Court, Mufti Bahaudin Farooqi, Gill and Grewal conducted a thorough investigation. The three-men various villages involved in the atrocities and made on the spot inquiries. They found that the ‘army and paramilitary forces had killed 15 Kashmiri Muslims, injured 86 and raped some 29 women, OF those killed, three student. Horrible injuries appear: to have been inflicted on the young man before his being brutally killed.
Gill and Grewal have ample experience of such atrocities against Sikh youth and Sikh women in the Punjab. They followed an all-too-familiar pattern. Mass arrests and killings of those suspected of collaborating with the militants are now an essential part of the paramilitary forces modus operandi. In order to get to the bottom of the latest round of the army menace against the civilians, a public inquiry will be held at Srinagar from Oct.1-10. ‘The inquiry will be jointly chaired by the P.H.R.O. Chairman, Ditbara Singh Gill and the retired Chief Justice Mufti Bahaudin Farooqi.
