A bill seeking to amend the citizenship act, 1955, to put an end to the discrimination being meted out to women was introduced in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliamentary) by minister of state for home in MM Jacob Friday.
So far, under section 4 (1) of the citizenship act, a person born outside the country on or after January 26,1950, became citizen by descent if the father was an Indian citizen at the time of the birth.
