JALANDHAR: Punjab human rights organization President Ajit Singh Baines’s campaign as Mann Akali Dal candidate got a big boost early this week when several social and religious organizations of Jalandhar decided to back him. The organization’s nominees met under the chairmanship of Sukhmani Saheb Sewa Society chief Sanam Singh Chahal and passed a resolution asking Badal Dal to withdraw its candidate so that Bains could emerge as a common anti-repression candidate for the Sikhs.

Independent candidate Shivkanwar Singh Sandhu who once was an independent leader of Sanjay Vichar Manch announced his retirement from contest in favor of Ajit Singh Bains and asked his supporters 10 organize Bains’s campaign all over the constituency.

Meanwhile Sikh Students Federation President Rajinder Singh Mehta in a statement issued from Amritsar jail denied that his organization had accepted Kuldip Singh Wadala as a common panthic candidate. He said Virsa Singh Valtoha had no night to issue Statements on behalf of other organizations, Mehta said he and his organization was on the side of Ajit Singh Bains, He regretted the failure of the Sikh community to join hands on such a small issue as putting up a common candidate from Jalandhar constituency.
