SHIMLA: The general secretary Of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, J.B.L,Khachi, recently accused the BIP of “politically blackmailing” the Governor, B.R.Bhagat.

He said it was disgraceful on the part of the former Chief Minister, Shanta Kumar, and his BJP to drag the institution of Governor into the controversy over the withdrawal of Cases against Certain officers.

These officers had either re tired or were due for retirement next week, there was nothing wrong if their cases were speedily reviewed and considered for withdrawal. After all, Cases against officers could not be left hanging for years together,

Khachi said Shanta Kumarhad reinstated a police officer who had been dismissed on corruption charges by the Congress.

He said the governor could not function according to the dictates of the BJP or toe its line. He had become a target of their “vilification” campaign. The role of the BJP was “childish.

Khachi said the BJP’s behavior indicated that the party was facing political bankruptcy and had no other issue for the elections as the temple issue had “died down”. He denied that the Congress had got the cases against the officers withdrawn,

Khachi urged the Center to defer the recovery of loans and interest thereon from the state ill March next and also reimburse about Rs 50 crore out Standing in various central organizations so that Himachal could face the financial crunch.

Khachi demanded a cadre re view of the HAS and the HPS to remove stagnation, He also demanded that “victimization” of employees during the BJP rule should be set right.

He demanded that the state government should declare a holiday for workers on May I.
