JAMMU: The Chief Minister of the Sensitive border state of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah Thursday retained major portfolios including home, law and Order, police and anti-corruption, while distributing portfolios to his reconstituted council of ministers.

Abdullah also kept for himself Ladakh affairs, tourism, vigilance, science and technology and publicity,

Mohiuddin Shah has been given his old portfolio of education while Mohammed Shafi has been given agriculture, agro-industries, horticulture, community and rural development. Abdul Rahim Rather retains finance, excise and taxation, banking and insurance.

Mirza Abdul Rashid retains heaIth, medical education and family Welfare, while G. R. Kar will continue with his power development Corporation and electricity board Portfolio. The portfolios of industries commerce, handicrafts, Khadi-village industries board, sericulture, geology and mining, stationery and printing will be retained by Manulana Iftikhar Hussain Ansari.

Moulana Ataullah Suhrawardy has been allocated departments of housing, Urban development, revenue, relief and rehabilitation, revenue records, matters pertaining to refugees which were held by Mr. P. L. Handoo who resigned from the council after he was elected to parliament.

Mangat Ram Sharma, besides food and transport will hold the newly created portfolio of the Mata Vaishnodevi shrine board. Mustafa Kamal, who has been elevated to the cabinet rank, will look after public works, irrigation and public health.

Suram Singh is the minister of state for agriculture and cooperation. M. A. Ganai will have independent charge of law and judiciary. Altaf Ahmed has been given animal husbandry and the newly inducted Hari Lal Hiteshi, education and social welfare.
