SACRAMENTO: Mr. Gurchatan Singh Dhillon the President of World Sikh Organization issued a statement saying that the celebration of January 26th in India as Republic Day, does not Present the true picture of the country which is meant to be democratic and secular. Instead it is persecuting the Sikhs living there.
Mr. Dhillon cited the planned murder of thousands of Sikhs in Delhi and other cities following the assassination of Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Over four years later, the culprits have not even been charged.
Sikh Engineering students were murdered by Hindu mobs in the south Indian city of Bidar. Shiv Sena, the fanatical Hindu Army of Shiva was responsible and the city police actively sided with the mobs, He said, “there is no doubt that the Indian government is hell bent on the genocide of the Sikhs,” he added.
“The government of India” continues the statement, “did not ensure a fair trial to Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Kehar Singh. In New Delhi and after a kangroo trial it hanged them.
By doing so, it has chosen to rub the salt in the wounds of the Sikhs.”
