STOCKTON, CA:: Eight hundred new gift subscriptions were donated by the Patrons at the dinner hosted in honor of the members of the World Sikh News Corporation who were in town in connection with the annual meeting of the Corporation. The dinner was hosted by the local members of the Corporation and was held at the Stockton Inn on Saturday, October 22, 1988. The highlight of the evening was the cultural program presented by Jagat Singh Jagga and Shane-Punjab music group. The hall was packed to capacity with guests from all over the Central Valley, Bay Area, Sacramento, Yuba City, Los Angeles and New York.
Dr. Gurinder Singh Grewal, President World Sikh News Corporation, in his welcome address, emphasized the need to develop an effective Sikh media. He also shared some of the difficulties experienced by the newspaper during its teething period. Referring to the struggle in Punjab, he said that other than Khalistan there was no solution acceptable to the Sikhs.
- Didar Singh Bains, Senior Vice-President of the Corporation, appreciated the constructive role being played by the World Sikh News. He congratulated the staff for their dedication and missionary zeal. He also appealed to everybody to participate in the annual Guru Gaddi Diwar Nagar Kistan that is scheduled for November 6, 1988 at Yuba City.
A booklet entitled “Truth about State Terrorism in Punjab” published by World Sikh Organization was released on the occasion. It was formally present to S. Didar Singh Bains by Dr. Grewal and Narinder Singh Somal.
Later Narinder Singh Somal, Secretary of the Corporation, thanked the guests and the organizers for making the function a great success.
