To: All Members of Parliament & Senators From: Colleen Beaumier, M.P. Disappearance of Mr, Jaswant Singh Khatra In June of 1995, Mr. Jaswant Singh Khalra made a presentation to Members of Parliament in which he provided evidence that some 25,000 people in Punjab, India presumed to be missing, had actually been murdered by police officers. Members and staff who attended the presentation will no doubt recall the detailed presentation he made regarding the burial grounds, As a result of the evidence which Mr. Khalra provided, he was subsequently invited to the United States to presentcvidence to Members of Congress concerned with International human rights.
Tam writing to inform you that Mr. Khalra was abducted by police outside his home in India on September 6, 1995. It is believed that the reason he is being held without charge is that the evidence he presented to Canadian Parliamentarians, American Congressman and the Punjab and Haryana High Court implicated the Superintendent of the Tam Tam Police Force. Shortly after Mr. Khalra filed a petition with the Punjab and Haryana High Court in January of this year, the Superintendent of Tarn Tam police is reported to have said that it would be “easy to make one more disappear.”
