NEW DELHI: Sikhs of different Groups in Delhi organized pro tests on Oct.7 to demand action Against the persons responsible for 1984 riots and proper rehabilitation measures for not victims who continue to live in miserable conditions,
The demonstrators marching towards Rashtrapati Bhavan were stopped at Patel Chowk where over 200 person’s courted arrest.
Later, a memorandum was presented to the President by a delegation led by Jaspal Singh and consisting of Delhi Shiromani Akali Dal (Mann) president Mohinder Singh, Delhi Akali Dal president Inder Pal Singh Khalsa, SAD (Baba) president Charanjit Singh Kesari and Manjit Singh.
The memorandum cited reports of inquiry commissions naming several police officers and three Congress leaders as guilty for riots and drew his attention to the Government inaction in launching prosecution against the accused,
They urged him to direct the authorities 10 take speedy action against the riots guilty and offer meaningful relief to the victims of those who had suffered in the carnage,
Another demonstration was held by SAD (Badal) whose members have been sitting on a relay hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for the past week,
A batch of 11 led by the State president Aviar Singh Hitmarched from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib to Jantar Mantar, raising slogans on the way.
The demonstrations declared that there would be no letup in their struggle till justice was done to the victims, those responsible for the carnage punished and those who suffered properly compensated and given adequate relief by way of waiver of loans.
The All India Riot Victim Relief Committee (R VRC) demanded in the memo to Sharma that Con gress leaders H.K.L. Bhagat, Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Dharam Dass Shastri be arrested immediately.
