CHANDIGARH: Eight security personnel including three army Jawans and nine militants were among 25 persons killed in Punjab since Thursday night.
Fifteen persons including nine BSF Jawans were injured during this period.
A report from Amritsar said that one person was killed and six others injured seriously in a blast outside a Cinema house in the city Friday night. The victim has been identified as Naresh Kumar. The injured have been admitted to the Guru Nanak hospital.
Lt. Gen. of Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) Gurbachan Singh alias Ala and two other militants were killed in an encounter with security forces near village Fidda in Ferozepur district police said. According to Ferozepur district police chief Anil Sharma some unidentified militants fired at a police party while it was returning after the recovery of arms and ammunition. In the exchange of fire Gurbachan Singh another militant Mohan Singh and their accomplice were killed. However two other militants managed to escape.
The militants in their first ever attack on the army since its deployment in the disturbed state killed three army Jawans and injured five others after ambushing their vehicle near village Lehal in Ludhiana district Thursday night. The army patrolling party returned the fire but the assailants managed to escape.
Militants also struck at two other places killing three BSF personnel and a civilian and injuring nine BSF Jawans. Attired in police uniforms they fired from automatic weapons on BSF personnel at the BSF headquarters in Shivala.
