MIDNAPUR: Fifty six persons were killed and 16 injured when a bus plunged into high voltage wires near Kharagpur in West Bengal last week.

The bus from the port city of Calcutta carrying 72 persons skidded off the bridge over a railway crossing on the Calcutta Bombay national highway, fell on the overhead traction lines and burst into flames.

Midnapur district magistrate Manabendranath Ray here said 16 passengers were admitted to different hospitals and their condition was stated to be serious.
