CHANDIGARH: Forty prominent newsmen and literatures have deplored the Punjab government for gagging the press in the region.
The writers who assembled at Patiala from March 7 to 9 to attend the Punjabi development conference expressed their anguish at the attempts of the government to gag the press especially Punjabi newspapers. They condemned confiscation of copies of Ajit Aji di Awaz and other papers
The writers also took exception to other government pressures on the Press.
Among the signatories were Kirpal Singh Devinder Vidyarthi Dr Kesar Singh Kesar Jagir Singh Jagtar Sukdev Maspuri Gurcharn Singh Chhina Dr Chaman Lal Dr Satish Verma Dr Surinder Singh Khera Ms Bulwinder Kaur Brar and Navjit Johal.
