YUBA CITY, CA: On Nov. 5th the Sixteenth annual Guru Granth Sahib Sikh Parade was attended by over 25 thousand Sikhs from California, many other slates and our northern neighbor, Canada. The event was blessed with unusually good weather and bright sunshine which helped make the event a resounding success.
Two special guests, Bibi Pritam Kaur, wife of Sikh Martyr, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and Bibi Surjit Kaur, mother of Sikh Martyr Manbir Singh Chahru were given a rousing reception in the packed hall of Gurdwara Sahib Tierra Buena. Khalistan Zindabad, Sant Jarnail Singh Amar Shahid, and Bhai Manbir Singh Zindabad slogans came from every body’s heart spontaneously. This glorious outpouring of emotion continued for at least 15 minutes, Then S. Gurpal Singh Bains presented Siropa to emotional statement described Bibi Pritam Kaur as the mother of Sikh nation. Both the ladies made no speeches but their silence conveyed the grief and pain of the hundreds and thousands of Sikh mothers in Punjab which cannot be described in mere words. This year’s parade was attended by several Sikh Saints like Sant Kirpal Singh ji, Sant Nihal Singh ji, Sant Kimble wale, and Sant Tirwala Several Sikh political leaders S. Didar Singh Bains. President W.S.O.,Gurmit Singh Aulakh, president Khalistan Council, Dr. Amarjit Singh spokesman for Satinderpal Panthik Committee and S. Jit Singh Baniwal President of Babbar Khalsa _International U.S.A. reminded the Sikhs of the continuing struggle for Sikh Sovereignty (Khalistan).
Jagmeet Singh Brar a Congress MP from Punjab was also in the hall. However, when “Khalistan Zindabad” slogans continued for a long time, he left the hall quietly. S. Didar Singh Bains mentioned in his remarks that he has told this young man to “go do something for the Sikh nation then we will recognize you.”
Several stalls of Sikh religious music tapes and Punjabi cultural items were the special attractions for the young Sikhs. The crowd was grateful for the generous (free food) Langar which was served continuously for three days.
Chairperson of County Supervisors, Mayor of Yuba City, a representative of Congressman Vic Fazios office and Mr. Lefener, the republican candidate for U.S. Congress also addressed the Sikhs.
- Dilbag Singh Bains, president of Gurdwara Sahib Tierra Buena, the whole management of Gurdwaras Sahib and all those who spent day & night to make this such a successful occasion are to be congratulated for hosting this wonderful annual event.
